PEOPLE HOLDING BANNERS ABOUT KILLING OF JOURNALISTSGAZA, PALESTINE - MAY 3, 2025: The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate held a solidarity rally in Gaza on Saturday, May 3, to mark World Press Freedom Day, denouncing Israel's targeting of journalists in the besieged enclave. Speaking at the event, syndicate representative Ahad Fervane said Palestinian journalists have become deliberate targets, regardless of where they seek shelter. He noted that more than 210 journalists have been killed since Oct. 7, 2023, and hundreds of their family members have also lost their lives. Fervane highlighted that many journalists have suffered serious injuries, including limb loss, with limited access to proper medical care. He added that numerous media offices and equipment have been destroyed by Israeli attacks. He also reported that 177 journalists have been detained by Israeli forces since Oct. 7, with 55 still held in Israeli prisons. Fervane, called for an immediate end to Israel’s violations against Palestinian journalists in Gaza, the West Bank, and beyond. At least 52,535 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s genocidal war since October 2023, the Health Ministry said on Sunday. A ministry statement said that 40 people were killed in Israeli attacks in the enclave in the last 24 hours, while 125 others were injured, taking the number of injuries to 118,491 in the Israeli onslaught. “Many victims are still trapped under the rubble and on the roads as rescuers are unable to reach them,” it added. The Israeli army resumed its assaults on the Gaza Strip on March 18 and has since killed 2,436 people and injured 6,450 others, shattering a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement that took hold in January. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave. Reporting by Khames Alrefi // Writing by Mustafa Tuncer
