Indian artist carves Labour Day mural into leaf
This is the impressive moment an Indian artist carved a Labour Day mural into a leaf.
Sand artist Madhurendra Kumar created silhouettes of workers with 'May 1' written in the centre of a green peepal leaf to commemorate and support the rights of labourers in Motihari, Bihar.
Footage shows him skillfully using an exacto knife to carve through the surface, with seven men depicted seemingly constructing a structure, with the words 'Labour Day' below.
Madhurendra Kumar said: 'These artworks created on Labour Day make us aware of the rights of labourers and show our respect and support for them. This day inspires us to remember the contribution of labourers and fight for their rights. Without labourers, no complex work in the world would be possible.'
Labour Day in India began on May 1, 1923, in Chennai and remains an important day associated with labour movements, celebrating workers' efforts to secure their rights.
Madhurendra Kumar is an internationally acclaimed sand artist and winner of several international sand art festivals.
