A policeman used his baton to break a car window to save a driver who collapsed inside with heatstroke.

Onlookers noticed the elderly motorist appeared to be unconscious behind the wheel while blocking traffic in Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Thailand.

Footage shows the Good Samaritans knocking on the glass but to no avail on April 30.

A patrol cop used his stick to weaken the window before a resident arrived with a large rock and used it to smash through the back seat behind the driver.

They opened the white SUV and a rescuer helped the driver who crawled out of his seat.

Police Sergeant Major Krailert Huaysungnoen, 36, said: 'I was with officer Thanawat Soisen in the area. It happened along Highway 340 in Lat Bua Luang district.'

The medics removed the driver's shirt and placed him on a stretcher to be given first aid treatment.

The police sergeant major added that the road user suffered from heat stroke caused by the weather.

He said: 'He fell ill with heat stroke during hot weather. It had been sunny before it rained.'
