Thais and a Singaporean tourist were arrested in separate police raids amid a crackdown on dangerous drug-laced vapes in Thailand.

The suspects reportedly plied clubs and bars in the capital Bangkok to sell 'zombie vapes' or 'Pod K' - e-cigarettes mixed with the strong horse tranquiliser Etomidate - to tourists.

Police said a crackdown was launched after undercover agents purchased a zombie vape for 2,500 baht and confirmed it contained the powerful anaesthetic.

From February to April, authorities arrested seven Thais and a Singaporean Neo Ming Lun, 37, found to be staying in Thailand illegally. They also seized dozens of zombie pods, crystal meth, undeclared imports, and properties believed to have been bought with ill-gotten wealth including a Mercedes Benz, luxury bags, gold jewellery, two Rolex watches, and a title deed for a building in Bangkok.

The suspects will face various charges including selling vapes, selling items that did not go through customs, money laundering, and possession of category 1 narcotics.

The Singaporean will face an additional charge for illegal entry into Thailand.

Anukul Prueksanusak, deputy spokesman for the Prime Minister's Office, had previously warned the public against using zombie vapes, which were reportedly marketed to aid in sleep and relaxation.

He said: 'There is no way to know what substances the seller intentionally mixed in or how much drugs are contained.'

Vaping has been banned in Thailand since 2014, despite the products being easily purchased in the country.

Those caught vaping or even just possessing a vape could result in a fine of up to 30,000 THB (700 GBP), imprisonment of up to five years, or both.
