UK: UK begins 4 days of celebrations for 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day

LONDON, UK - MAY 5, 2025: The United Kingdom on Monday,May 5, began four days of celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day. King Charles saluted a military procession making its way to Buckingham Palace, according to the BBC. Along with Charles, Queen Camilla and the prince and princess of Wales as well as Prime Minister Keir Starmer were present to watch the parade. Eleven members of the Ukrainian military also marched with other regiments during the procession. Britain has been one of Ukraine’s top proponents in its current war with Russia. The royal family along with thousands of people headed towards Buckingham Palace to watch a flypast featuring the Red Arrows, the aerobatic team of the Royal Air Force. Charles and Camilla, along with senior members of the royal family—including Prince William, Catherine, Princess of Wales, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, Princess Anne, Princess Royal, and Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence—appeared on the Buckingham Palace balcony during the armed forces and veterans’ parade. VE Day is the day celebrating the formal acceptance by the Allies of Germany's unconditional surrender during of World War II. May 8 this year marks the 80th anniversary.
