A pet dog was rescued after falling into a 20ft well in Thailand.

The male pooch was believed to have been following his master when he fell into the well in a remote cassava field in Nakhon Ratchasima.

Rescuers were called to the scene at 12:30 pm on April 30, after villagers heard the canine crying and screeching from the darkness of the shaft.

They arrived at the field and found the black dog trapped in the cement well containing a small amount of water.

The volunteers first used food to lure the dog closer before securing him with a rope and dragging him up to safety using a makeshift harness.

Footage shows the terrified pet shrieking and wailing as he was winched up to safety. After being pulled out, he bolted into the nearby fields.

Locals believe he belonged to a nearby villager and may have fallen into the well while chasing bullfrogs.
