Couple attempting to skip queues tumble down mountainside at tourist hotspot in China
On May 4, a dangerous incident occurred at the Mount Tai scenic area in Shandong when tourists violated safety rules by climbing over a protective barrier.
A couple, attempting to avoid crowded areas, tried to take a shortcut down a steep cliff outside the railing. The man in red climbed over first, and as he was helping the woman in white from below, they both lost balance due to the slippery rocks. As the woman began to fall headfirst, the man grabbed her by the legs. They both slid along the cliff face before getting wedged in a crevice. Fortunately, they escaped with only minor scrapes and left the scene on their own.
The Mount Tai Scenic Area authorities stated that staff had warned the couple not to cross the barrier, but they ignored the advice. Patrols and supervision will be strengthened moving forward.
