Fatal ALS Bus Accident Kills 12 People, in Padang Panjang, West Sumatra, Padang Basarnas Evacuates Victims
12 people died in a bus accident belonging to the Antar Lintas Sumatera (ALS) bus company that overturned in Padang Panjang City, West Sumatra (Sumbar), Tuesday (6/5).
The victims who died were all bus passengers. They died after being hit by debris after the bus overturned onto the left sidewalk.
"All victims have been evacuated.
The 12 people who died consisted of five women and seven men," said the Head of Taruna Siaga Bencana
In addition to the police and Basarnas, Tagana was also known to be at the scene helping with the victim evacuation process. Ferix said that dozens of passengers were injured.
"The injured victims are being treated at two hospitals, namely the Ibnu Sina Padang Panjang Hospital and the Padang Panjang Hospital as well as a health center," he said.
The death toll of 12 people was also confirmed by the West Sumatra Police Chief, Inspector General Pol Goatot Tri
While 12 people died.
The condition of the overturned bus has now been evacuated. The police have not revealed the detailed chronology of the accident.
However, from CCTV footage, the ALS bus was speeding from Bukittinggi until it made a U-turn and then overturned. It is suspected that the bus experienced brake failure.
