A giant tortoise saw his friend struggling after falling onto his back, then determinedly flipped him back onto his feet.

The sulcata named John had rolled onto its shell when another animal accidentally pushed him inside their enclosure in Jakarta, Indonesia.

CCTV footage shows how the concerned fellow reptile, Abba, rushed over to his pal, who was stuck in an awkward position.

Abba then spent some 10 minutes repeatedly battling to turn John back over. Eventually he was successful, using a small wall to lift his friend back onto his feet. They both then waddled away together.

Their caretaker said: 'That funny incident happened at my farm Sulcatardana. It shows just how intelligent tortoises are and how they care for each other. I was proud of what they did.'
