This is the shocking moment tourists were injured after a camel they were riding suddenly bolted.

Two holidaymakers were aboard the two-humped camelid when the animal sprinted out of a compound in Shaanxi, China.

Footage shows the cameleer struggling to restrain the panicked hoofed creature by pulling on its leash, desperately trying to maintain control on April 30.

However, the Bactrian camel dragged him along the ground while the vacationers clung together between its two humps.

The animal eventually broke free from the rope and galloped down the road, with the pair bouncing between the humps before being violently thrown off and hitting the ground hard.

The tourists reportedly suffered wounds and bruises from the violent fall.

The camel was later recovered and safely returned to its owner.

A study published in the Emirates Journal of Food and Agriculture said that camels may exhibit fear-based behaviours such as bolting when exposed to unfamiliar or stressful situations.

Experts explained that such responses are often triggered when camels feel threatened or overwhelmed in unfamiliar environments.
