-ABUJA, NIGERIA - MAY 6, 2025: Nigeria has embarked on a wide-ranging digital transformation initiative aimed at integrating technology into its education system to provide inclusive and high-quality learning opportunities for millions of children across the country. The International Conference on Smart Education (ICSE 2025), held in the capital Abuja on Tuesday, May 6, brought together international stakeholders to explore digital innovation and smart learning solutions in Africa’s education sector. The conference was attended by Nigerian government officials, foreign mission representatives, and education experts from various countries. As Africa’s most populous country, Nigeria faces critical challenges in its education sector, including over 18 million out-of-school children and low foundational literacy and numeracy levels among primary students, according to Nigerian Minister of Education. The government’s new strategy places digital technology and artificial intelligence at the core of education reform efforts, aiming to bridge gaps in access and quality. Nigeria’s digital education drive is part of a broader effort to prepare the next generation for a technology-driven future, as the country seeks to modernize its education system and address long-standing disparities.
