Katie set out for an unforgettable sunrise snorkel near Genovesa, expecting to catch a glimpse of the vibrant marine life. But nothing could have prepared her for what happened next.

As one of only seven swimmers in the water, she listened as their guide explained that they might spot one or two hammerhead sharks if they were lucky. Then, in a moment of pure astonishment, an entire shiver of hammerheads glided beneath her.

I was on a once in a lifetime trip to The Galápagos Islands. We were near Genovesa and Darwin’s Bay and were the first group of zodiac boats to head out for a sunrise snorkel. I was one of 7 people in the water at the time. Our guide told us we would probably see 1, hopefully 2 hammerhead sharks so you can imagine my surprise when an entire shiver swam beneath me! I just so happened to be recording myself at the time and quickly swung the camera around to get the group of sharks. It was incredible!
