Whales intrigued by classical music as orchestra plays outside aquarium
A pod of orcas appeared mesmerised by a live classical performance staged just outside their enclosure at an aquarium.
The classical music ensemble began playing a soothing orchestral piece near the tank, prompting the animals to hover behind them at Chimelong Ocean Kingdom in Guangdong, China.
Footage shows the marine mammals swimming up to the glass as the musicians played on March 20.
Four killer whales stayed just behind the performers, appearing intrigued by the sound.
As the music continued, three of them slowly drifted away, leaving one particularly curious whale still watching intently.
Moments later, the entire pod returned, swimming in synchrony just as the piece reached its crescendo.
Orcas are among the most intelligent marine animals on the planet. Known for their problem-solving abilities and complex communication, they are also naturally inquisitive and sensitive to sound.
