Storyline: China pushes ahead with consumer goods trade-in, industrial equipment upgrading [Voice_over] China is pushing forward with policies designed to stimulate large scale manufacturing equipment renewals both at home and abroad, and programs to promote domestic consumer goods trade-ins. Technological upgrades enable enterprises to manufacture things faster and more efficiently. Amongst China's total exports, electromechanical products account for about half, highlighting China's role as a top tier global machinery manufacturer. [Sound_bite] Guo Liyan, Deputy director, Institute of Economic Research, Chinese Academy of Macroeconomic Research: "High-end equipment manufacturing plays a very important role in the stability of our industrial economy, serving as a ballast stone. It also has considerable influence and reputation in overseas markets." [Voice_over] China is carrying over its consumer goods trade-in program from last year, with the addition of four eligible appliances, including dishwashers, water purifiers, rice cookers and microwave ovens. Experts say China's efforts will ultimately help the country brace for external shocks. [Sound_bite] Guo Liyan, Deputy director, Institute of Economic Research, Chinese Academy of Macroeconomic Research: "The large-scale renewal of equipment and the trade-in of consumer good programs are a systematic arrangement that benefits both the present and the long-term interests. The renewal of equipment and the trade-in of consumer goods can provide better industrial support and market environment for the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries. This type of policy is conducive to strengthening and consolidating the domestic circulation, so we can cope with external uncertainties with our own industry, market and policy certainties." [Voice_over] Earlier this year, the government announced the pre-allocation of more than 11 billion U.S. dollars in funds for the consumer goods trade-in program.
