Cyclist crashes on road race in the Philippines
A cyclist crashed on a road during a mountain bike race in the Philippines.
Footage shows the participant from Japan slipping and tumbling near the pavement in Tarlac province.
The Japanese athlete hit the side of his face on the concrete and fell of his two-wheeler.
He quickly stood up and checked his bicycle while fellow racers had to avoid him.
Another racer swerved along and fell, detaching his wheel, which was quickly repaired.
Local Joshua Velasco, who watched the event with neighbours on March 27, said: 'He told us he was from Japan. He was injured but continued with the race. I admire his determination.'
The racer was part of MPTC Tour of Luzon which started in 1955 which tracked Manila to north Vigan City.
It was inspired by the European Grand Tours and has become an annual race until the pandemic in 2020.
