This is the terrifying moment a deer rampaged into a shoe shop in India.

The seemingly confused sambar deer entered the store, sending frantic shopkeepers fleeing to safety in Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh.

CCTV footage shows the hoofed animal skidding at the shop entrance and crashing through shoe boxes on display on May 5.

The fawn then stood up before sprinting into the store.

One employee quickly climbed over the counter to escape, while another stood frozen in the corner.

The shopkeeper said the animal eventually calmed down and remained inside.

Passersby alerted the forest department, which immediately responded and tranquilised the deer before transporting it to the nearest wildlife medical facility.

The animal did not reportedly sustained serious injuries from the incident.

Local media reported that the two-year-old deer was initially seen running along the market road, likely startled by vehicle horns and the bustle of the busy street.

Divisional Forest Officer Ankit Singh said the sambar population has been steadily growing in the district's forests.

He added: 'The young animal may have accidentally strayed into town, likely disoriented by traffic and noise.'

After receiving initial treatment, the deer was relocated to a forest enclosure in the nearby village of Sastar.

It remains under the care of veterinary experts and will be released back into the wild once fully recovered.
