American tourist regrets taking Indian sleeper train after being left on nebuliser
An American tourist regretted taking a sleeper train in India after ending up on a nebuliser.
Travel vlogger Nick Maddock said that his 15-hour train ride left him hospitalised with a severe respiratory ailment in Bhutan.
Nick travelled in a third AC coach from Varanasi to New Jalpaiguri before continuing to the neighbouring country.
The holidaymaker described the train ride as one of the most unpleasant experiences in his six years of travel and vowed never to repeat the journey.
Footage shows Nick using a nebuliser while flashing a peace sign.
Nick said: 'Listen, I love India. It has warm and generous people, endless scenic landscapes, and a rich and sacred history, I can acknowledge that while simultaneously saying that my 15-hour train in 3rd class AC from Varanasi to New Jalpaiguri was one of the grossest things I've seen in my six years of travelling.
'No higher class was available. It doesn't have to be like that.'
Nick is currently receiving treatment in a hospital in Bhutan, where he was diagnosed with a severe respiratory infection three days after the train ride. While on the path to recovery, he noted that it would take time to fully heal.
The visitor said this is the first time he has been hospitalised abroad after travelling to more than 120 countries.
Despite the incident, he stressed that his overall experience in India remained positive, highlighting the friendliness and hospitality of most people.
In India, a sleeper train is a long-distance locomotive with sleeping berths designed for overnight travel. These trains are commonly used for intercity routes and offer an affordable alternative to flights.
However, the quality of cleanliness and comfort can vary significantly depending on the class of travel and the specific train service.
