Mbah Sutiah Sunyoto Adam, a 107-year-old grandmother from Sidowaluyo Village, Sidomulyo District, South Lampung Regency, has been recorded as the oldest prospective Hajj pilgrim from Lampung Province—and even the oldest in Indonesia—for the 1446 Hijri / 2025 Hajj season. Mbah Sutiah registered for Hajj in 2019 and has been waiting for six years. Despite being over a century old, she remains active as a farmer and maintains her health with a disciplined diet. Her determination to answer the call to the Holy Land remains unwavering. She is scheduled to depart for Mecca in the early hours of Wednesday, May 7, 2025, with group 19 from the Jakarta embarkation. Upon arrival in Mecca, she will undergo a health screening by the regional Hajj health team to ensure she is in good condition throughout the pilgrimage. A touching moment occurred when Mbah Sutiah prepared her Hajj belongings. A joyful smile lit up her face as she saw the Indonesian flag on the Hajj officer’s uniform. After six years of saving from her rice harvests, her long-held dream of fulfilling the fifth pillar of Islam is finally coming true. The South Lampung Regency Government is also giving special attention to Mbah Sutiah’s journey. The Regent of South Lampung, Radityo Egi Pratama, has urged Hajj officers to provide extra care for elderly pilgrims. Mbah Sutiah’s departure serves as a powerful reminder that age is not a barrier to worship. Her perseverance and dedication are an inspiration and valuable example for younger generations.
