MILITARY PARADE AT ALA-TOO SQUAREBISHKEK, KYRGYZSTAN - MAY 8: Former Soviet countries, including Kyrgyzstan, on Thursday, May 8, celebrated the 80th anniversary of Victory Day, marking the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany during World War II in 1945, also known as the Great Patriotic War by some former Soviet states and also by Russia. As part of traditional events surrounding Victory Day, the laying of wreaths at military memorials and a minute of silence took place at the local level. The Ala-Too Square in the Kyrgyz capital city of Bishkek hosted a military parade attended by President Sadyr Japarov, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Adylbek Kasymaliev, Parliament Speaker Parliament Speaker Nurlanbek Turgunbek Uulu, members of the government, members of parliament, veterans and their families, representatives of foreign missions, military attaches, diplomats, guests and citizens. In his speech at the ceremony, President Japarov said this Great Victory is the work of all the peoples of the Soviet Union, that's why, it is a common victory. Participants in the celebrations watched the military parade with pride The Soviet government drafted 365,000 Kyrgyz into military service during World War II, and it was estimated that around 100,000 of them died. The celebrations will continue tomorrow.
