A snake discovered in a hotel toilet in Austria has found a new home at a reptile zoo.

The kingsnake, which mimics the appearance of venomous species, was rescued after it was seen emerging from a toilet bowl in a Vienna hotel.

Though non-venomous, the constrictor can grow up to five feet long and uses its markings to scare off predators.

Animal welfare officers from Tierschutz Austria retrieved the reptile and housed it in a shelter while searching for a permanent home for 18 months.

Experts believe the snake had escaped from its owner's home and entered the city's sewage system before surfacing in the hotel bathroom.

Now named Chloe, the snake has been rehomed at Reptilien Zoo in Salzburg, a small facility that specialises in snakes and reptiles.

While not dangerous, Chloe is being used for educational purposes to teach visitors how harmless snakes can resemble venomous ones.

Tierschutz Austria has also issued safety guidance for anyone who may encounter snakes in nature, gardens, or even toilets.
