A lorry lost its wheel on a busy motorway, with the driver seemingly unaware of the chaos unfolding behind him.

The incident occurred on the Moscow Ring Road (MKAD) near the 71st kilometre mark in the city of Moscow, Russia, on Saturday, May 3.

Footage shows one of the lorry's rear wheels detaching and rolling along behind it before suddenly veering back into the slow lane and colliding with the crash barrier on the hard shoulder.

The tyre then moves back into the road, prompting all the traffic behind to slow down to avoid hitting it.

The car driver overtakes the lorry, which can be seen continuing despite the missing rear wheel.

There have been no reports of injuries or further accidents resulting from the incident.
