Columbus, United States - May 04, 2025 [WARNING: violent content] The Columbus Division of Police responded to a viral social media post on Monday after a dog owner pleaded with officers to allow her to take her dog to the vet following a shooting incident. The incident occurred on Sunday at approximately 3:28 p.m. near Arlington Avenue and Bremen Street. Police reported that the dog was not on a leash and began chasing a woman and her leashed dog. Body camera footage shows the unleashed dog attacking the leashed animal, with the woman attempting to separate the two. At this point, an officer instructed the woman to step away and fired two shots at the aggressive dog. According to the police statement, the officer discharged the firearm “in an effort to stop the attack and protect both the leashed dog and its owner from further harm.” The dog was fatally struck. A video posted on Facebook shows the injured dog lying on the ground while its owner can be heard saying the dog was “bleeding out” after being shot. An officer at the scene told the woman that animal control would need to release the dog before she could take it to the vet. In her post, the owner shared that she pleaded with police for nearly an hour for permission to get medical help for the dog.
