MALINDI, KENYA - MAY 8 , 2025: At least three people were killed when a quarry collapsed in the town of Malindi, Kenya, on Thursday, May 8. According to local media reports, one person was rescued from the rubble, while search and rescue efforts remain underway. Malindi Deputy County Commissioner David Lusava said there were concerns that more people could be trapped under the debris. He noted that the quarry had been closed by the government last year due to safety concerns but some individuals continued to operate there despite the ban. The victims were reportedly part of a group extracting stones when the incident occurred. Authorities have launched an investigation into the collapse, and Lusava urged the public to adhere to government regulations for their own safety.
