This is the shocking moment a pet cat was caught on CCTV smashing an antique Chinese vase.

Mr Wei discovered the broken 19th century ceramic pot after returning home from work in Chongqing, China.

Determined to find out what had happened, he reviewed the surveillance footage and was stunned to see one of his cats was the culprit.

Footage shows the feline biting twigs placed inside the vase.

Moments later, the playful kitten tugs at the display, causing it to topple to the floor next to a sleeping Golden Retriever, shattering on impact.

The startled cat bolts away while the dog quickly stands and walks off.

The pet owner said: 'When I saw the video, I urgently needed a reason to calm down.'
