Los Angeles, United States - May 09, 2025 05/08/2025 11:00 pm GMT-0700 LONG BEACH, Calif. – A multi-vehicle collision occurred late Thursday night on the southbound lanes of the 405 Freeway near Atlantic Avenue. The incident involved a semi-truck, a box truck, and two other vehicles, causing traffic on the freeway to reach a standstill. Reports indicated the vehicles were blocking lanes two through four, with debris scattered across the roadway. An early call about the collision suggested that one of the vehicles may have flown off the freeway. Emergency services were dispatched at about 11 p.m.. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) assessed the situation and advised that all lanes would be closed for approximately three hours. Due to the debris obstructing traffic, the CHP issued a Sig Alert and requested a hard closure from Caltrans for the affected area. By around 11:30 p.m., a tow service was requested to manage the evidence at the scene, which led to additional lane closures and the need for traffic diversion. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner was also called to assist, requesting evidence management from the beginning of the response. One person was confirmed deceased at the scene, and at least one additional patient was taken to the hospital in unknown condition.
