Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl rocking out at Devo concert in rare public outing
In a rare casual outing Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl was spotted rocking out at a Devo concert at The Anthem in Washington DC on Saturday night.
The 55-year-old music legend appeared to be enjoying some downtime at the May 3 show with his daughter and Ian MacKaye of Fugazi.
He once credited new wave Devo with inspiring him to start drumming, and a bystander said he was in good spirits and smiled and waved when she called his name.
According to the bystander, who was positioned near the soundboard with her 14-year-old daughter, Grohl was merely "10 to 12 feet away" in what appeared to be a VIP section just behind them."
"My daughter pointed him out," the bystander shared."
"I said, 'Dave,' and he turned and looked and we smiled and waved and he smiled and waved back."
"There weren't a lot of people in the area that we were in, and so nobody was bothering Dave to take pictures or anything like that. It just was kind of relaxed."
The Learn to Fly singer has been keeping a lower profile following the Foo Fighters' return to touring after the death of drummer Taylor Hawkins in 2022.
He shocked fans last year by revealing in a bombshell Instagram post he was expecting a child with another woman.
In an interview credited to Melody Maker, he said Devo was an inspiration.
"Everyone in my year at school wanted to be in Devo, they were these aliens you really wanted to know, really wanted to be part of," he said."
"Plus, they were from Ohio, which is where I'm from, and it was really inspirational not only to have a band take New York by storm from Ohio but also for them to be that far out, recreate themselves that much. Plus, their songs were dead simple to learn. They kinda made me start playing drums."
