20160520 4th Alarm structure fire Ashland

Schuylkill County Communications Center dispatched a 1st Alarm working structure fire at 421 west Centre Str. Ashland shortly after 07:00. It was then quickly upgraded to, 3rd then 4th alarm bringing in units from Columbia and Northumberland Counties. Three structures were damaged in this blaze.American Legion 13th District is credited with alerting and evacuating residence of the structure after smelling smoke prior to the fire departments arrival.Emergency Personnel worked on 2 dogs for over ½ to no avail.The Red Cross is assisting the 12 who have been left homeless.Ashland Police Chief Mark O’Hearn said 1 was rescued from her home. Ashland Fire Chief Phillip Groody said the fire is ruled accidental and it originated to the “C” side of 421 W. Centre St. “I was amazed by the number of people who turned out considering what time of day it was”.
