India activates S-400 as Pakistan missiles target Jammu region, intercepts all foreign threats mid-air
Jammu and Kashmir - May 08, 2025 India's air defence systems sprang into action after Pakistan launched loitering munitions and missiles targeting multiple locations across Jammu and Kashmir, including Jammu city's airport. The incident occurred in Rajouri, northern India, on May 8. Visuals from the scene show airborne missiles launched from Pakistan targeting Jammu, even as the entire Jammu and Kashmir region remained under a blackout. The Indian armed forces swiftly intercepted and neutralised as many as 7 to 8 of these missiles mid-air in a strong defensive response. Loud explosions can be heard as the interceptions take place. According to reports, on late Thursday night, the escalation came amid India’s ongoing ‘Operation Sindoor’ against Pakistan-backed terrorism. Jammu was plunged into darkness after two loud explosions were reported near the airport, triggering an immediate power outage. Sirens blared across the region as Indian forces intercepted the incoming threats, successfully downing several Pakistani drones using anti-drone technology. One drone reportedly crashed just outside the airport premises. Pakistani missiles also targeted key locations in the Jammu region—Satwari, Samba, RS Pura, and Arnia—but all eight missiles were neutralised mid-air by Indian Air Defence. In a further escalation, Indian forces responded swiftly with the S-400 air defence system, intercepting all incoming threats mid-air, effectively preventing any damage as Pakistan launched a missile attack. Defence sources also confirmed that Indian forces shot down two Pakistani fighter jets during the confrontation. A complete blackout was enforced in both Jammu and Punjab's Amritsar as a precaution, while internet services were suspended across Jammu and Kashmir. The Centre has also ordered 100% pre-boarding checks at all airports nationwide. Punjab, Rajasthan, and Haryana have been placed on high alert. Defence sources likened Pakistan’s actions to those of Hamas, accusing it of using "cheap rockets" in its assault. Missile and drone attacks on military stations in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur were also thwarted, officials said.
