Sweden: Protest held in Stockholm against Israeli plans to expand Gaza attacks
STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN - MAY 10, 2025: Thousands gathered on Saturday, May 10, in Sweden’s capital, Stockholm, to protest Israel’s decision of expanding its attacks on the Gaza Strip. The protestors in Odenplan district carried banners reading: “Zionist Israel, get out of Palestine,” “Murderer USA, get out of the Middle East,” “No to genocide,” “Zionism will be defeated, resistance will win,” “No to forced displacement and genocide,” and “Schools and hospitals are being bombed.” The protesters marched to the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, chanting slogans such as “Freedom for Palestine” and “No to Trump’s expansion plan.” One of the activists who took part in the protest, Karen Wild, said that they are fighting for the people suffering genocide by Israel in Gaza. Wild noted that she has participated in weekly demonstrations for Palestine in Stockholm for the past 1.5 years and emphasized that they are fighting for the people being wiped out under the horrific war in Gaza. The Swedish activist stressed that Israel’s use of a food blockade as a deliberate weapon of starvation against Palestinians is unacceptable. Pointing out the lack of global response to Israel’s food blockade, Wild said, "I think it's unacceptable to use, for example, starvation as a weapon and Israel is doing this deliberately. They say it's our land and we're going to kill them, and the world does not react. It is a war crime, it's a genocide." Writing by Ayse Elif Erdis
