SOLDIERS AND COMMANDERS ON SHIP CLAPPING THEIR HANDS (2 SHOTS) OFF SINOP, TÜRKİYE - RELEASED ON MAY 10, 2025: The Turkish Navy has for the first time fired the domestically developed ATMACA anti-ship missile from a naval platform during the ongoing Seawolf-II/2025 exercise, officials announced on Saturday, May 10. The live-fire test, conducted off the coast of Sinop, targeted the decommissioned fast attack craft ex-TCG Martı, marking the missile’s first operational use in a naval exercise. Since its initial ship-launched test in 2019, the ATMACA has undergone extensive trials, including GPS-denied and electronic warfare scenarios, before achieving initial operational capability (IOC) in 2021. Developed by Turkish defense contractor Roketsan, the ATMACA (Hawk) is an all-weather, long-range, precision-guided anti-ship cruise missile designed to strengthen the Turkish Navy’s surface warfare capabilities. With a range exceeding 200 kilometers, the missile employs active radar homing and is powered by the KTJ-3200 turbojet engine—Türkiye’s first indigenous missile propulsion system, produced by Kale Arge. The ATMACA features a multi-sensor guidance system, including GPS and inertial navigation, barometric and radar altimeters for sea-skimming flight, an active radar seeker for terminal precision, and a data link for in-flight target updates and mission adjustments. Designed for deployment on fast patrol boats, frigates, and corvettes, the missile has also demonstrated submarine launch capability, expanding its operational versatility. The Seawolf-II/2025 exercise, running from May 6 to 16, is one of the Turkish Naval Forces’ largest annual drills, spanning the Black Sea, Marmara Sea, Aegean Sea, and eastern Mediterranean—regions of heightened geopolitical significance. The exercise involves 120 ships, 85 aircraft, unmanned maritime vehicles, submarines, special forces, and coastal units, with participation from the Turkish Army, Air Force, Gendarmerie, and Coast Guard.
