Severe weather conditions including snowstorms and heavy rainfall caused travel disruptions in multiple regions of China on Friday, with temporary highway closures in the north and landslides in the southwest. In north China's Shanxi Province, unexpected snow and sleet coupled with strong winds led to dangerous driving conditions, particularly along sections of the Erguang and Linghe expressways. Highway patrols were deployed to clear debris and manage traffic as icy conditions developed. The situation escalated at Wutai Mountain, a renowned UNESCO site in Xinzhou City of Shanxi, where nighttime snowfall stranded several tour buses. Rescue teams worked through freezing temperatures to evacuate passengers, some of whom had to exit through emergency windows when bus doors froze shut. Local authorities arranged alternative transport for the stranded tourists, with all roads eventually reopening by early Saturday. Meanwhile, in Kaizhou District, southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, persistent heavy rain and strong winds triggered collapses of multiple road sections. In Yuexi Town, mudflows buried half of a six-meter-wide roadway under rocks and uprooted trees. "Due to the heavy rain and strong winds, over 20 potential hazards emerged in our town. We deployed excavators to clear the major road collapse," said He Youzhi, emergency management officer of Yuexi Town Government. By Friday night, crews had cleared all affected routes in five villages in the town. Shotlist: Shanxi Province, north China - May 9, 2025: 1. Various of police officer directing traffic in sleet; 2.
