A dozen old diesel locomotives have been left abandoned and rusting in a quarry.

Eerie aerial footage shows the trains tightly packed together surrounded by discarded railway sleepers.

The ex DB Cargo Class 60 locomotives were originally taken to the White Moss Quarry in Alsager, Cheshire, to be storied ahead of restoration.

But they appear to have been abandoned and falling into disrepair.

The rusty locomotives, some of which have broken windows, were all built between 1989 and 1993.

Several people have taken to social media, to say that it is "terribly sad" that the trains have been abandoned. "

One person commented: "I hope some or even all these class 60s got a new lease of life. "

"Such a shame to see them in this state."

Someone else wrote: "These are my favourites, such a shame they're not being used."

Another person said: "How terribly sad."

The vehicles were bought by company Land Recovery and they were transported from Toton, Notts., to the quarry last year.
