DEMONSTRATORS CHANTING AND MARCHINGBRUSSELS, BELGIUM - MAY 11: Thousands of Belgian activists and Palestinian supporters on Sunday, May 11, marked the 77th anniversary of Nakba, or Catastrophe -- the expulsion of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from their land in 1948 after the founding of Israel. About 20,000 demonstrators gathered in front of the Brussels-North Railway Station in the capital city and marched along the Brussels Canal towards the Midi Train Station. Chanting slogans in favor of Palestine, the group called on all governments in the world, especially the Belgian government, to take urgent action against the humanitarian disaster that Israel has deliberately created in Gaza. Carrying bloodstained shrouded dolls representing Palestinian babies massacred by Israel in Gaza, the demonstrators called for an immediate ceasefire and a two-state solution. The demonstrators also demanded an arms embargo and economic sanctions against Israel. More than 52,800 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza in a brutal Israeli onslaught since October 2023, most of them women and children. The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
