A Russian woman was arrested over alleged sex work on the Thai Full Moon Party island.

Alina, 34, is said to have been advertising her services online while earning more than 100,000 baht (2280 GBP) per month on Koh Phangan.

But local sex workers are said to have complained about the 'unfair competition' and officers raided her hotel room on on May 9.

She was taken into custody in Surat Thani province, southern Thailand,

Investigators said they received a tip-=off before stalking an online profile under the name of 'Sofia', which was linked to the suspect on a escort website.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Winit Boonchit of the Tourist Police, along with officers from Koh Phangan Police Station, the Immigration Bureau, the provincial tactical team, and local authorities, coordinated an operation to apprehend the suspect.

He said: 'Intelligence was received that the Russian woman was working as a prostitute. There were concerns about the amount of money she was making compared with local people, which was unfair.'

Undercover officers arranged a meeting with the suspect through a messaging application, setting the location at a local resort.

At the agreed location, officers observed a foreign woman matching the profile of 'Sofia' arrive on a motorcycle and enter one of the resort rooms.

Following a brief negotiation, an officer arranged to purchase her services, leading to her immediate arrest.

Police confiscated 11,000 baht (250 GBP) in marked cash used in the sting operation, along with a condom and a brown shoulder bag as evidence.

Alina was charged with 'engaging in prostitution in collaboration with another person', as well as 'advertising to solicit or arrange prostitution'. Both are offences under Thai law but rarely enforced.

Officer Winit said: 'The suspect testified that she decided to engage in prostitution due to the high income. She stated that most customers contacted her between 1 am and 5 am, and she claimed to earn more than one hundred thousand baht monthly.

'She promoted her services under the username 'Sofia' on the Thailand section of the Escort News website.

'According to the listing, she described herself as a Russian offering services in the Koh Phangan area for 600 USD per hour, working from 8 pm to 2 am.

Police Lieutenant General Saksira Pueak-am, Commander of the Tourist Police Bureau, instructed law enforcement in key tourist areas to strengthen enforcement efforts targeting illegal activities involving foreign nationals, including offenses related to prostitution.
