This is the heartwarming moment a wild muntjac was rescued from a canal by state officers in China.

Locals discovered the drowning deer after it had fallen into a river in Huangshan, Anhui.

This prompted concerned residents to alert two guards patrolling the area.

Footage shows the rescuers using a net and ropes to retrieve the hoofed creature from the water on April 27.

They can be seen carrying the fawn and releasing it back into the forest, where it sprinted into the woods.

Local media reported that the animal did not sustain any injuries from the incident.
