Animal rights activists targeted a food market in Italy.

The groups Burn It All and Animal Rebellion carried out a protest during the Farmer's Village event in Piazza dei Signori in Verona on Sunday, May 11.

The demonstration was held on Mother's Day to raise awareness about perceived exploitation in both human and animal motherhood.

One protester said: 'We are Animal Rebellion and Burn It All and we are here for a nonviolent direct action. We want to say enough to the exploitation of both human and non-human mothers by our speciesist and patriarchal culture. The female body is not a reproduction machine!'

The protest aimed to raise awareness about postpartum depression, which reportedly affects between 20 to 40 per cent of individuals who give birth.

Activists also denounced artificial insemination practices in industrial farming. A 1999 global survey reported that over 264 million sperm doses were collected from more than 40,000 bulls, with 75 per cent reportedly used in the dairy industry.

Eventually, three activists were removed by the police without resistance, while one walked voluntarily to the police vehicle.
