US, Los Angeles: Long Beach Pedestrian Struck and Killed on Freeway

Los Angeles, United States - May 14, 2025 05/13/2025 10:26 pm GMT-0700 LONG BEACH, Calif. – California Highway Patrol from the Santa Fe Springs Area station and the Long Beach Fire Department responded to a traffic collision involving a vehicle on fire on the eastbound 91 Freeway at Cherry Avenue in Long Beach. While responding to the initial incident, CHP received additional 911 calls reporting that a pedestrian had been struck on the westbound 91 Freeway at Cherry Avenue, the same vicinity as the earlier traffic collision. Firefighters and paramedics pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene on the westbound side. It is currently unclear how many individuals may have been transported due to the crash on the eastbound side of the freeway. CHP issued a Sig Alert for both the eastbound and westbound lanes of the 91 Freeway at Cherry Avenue for an undetermined amount of time as they continued their investigation into the fatal incident. It remains unknown at this time if the vehicles involved in the incident on the westbound side of the freeway stopped at the scene.
