Phoenix, United States - May 13, 2025 05/13/2025 02:20 am GMT-0700 PHOENIX, Ariz. – Phoenix police officers and the Phoenix Fire Department responded to reports of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision on 51st Avenue just north of McDowell Road at approximately 2:20 a.m. Tuesday. Officers and firefighters arrived to find a pedestrian in the southbound lanes of 51st Avenue. The involved vehicle was stopped in the southbound lanes near the McDowell Road intersection. According to police at the scene, the unidentified pedestrian was transported to a local trauma center with critical injuries. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and was last seen being secured in the back of a patrol vehicle. It is unknown if they have been detained or were placed in the patrol vehicle for investigative purposes. Phoenix police officers established a hard closure for 51st Avenue. The closure spanned from the north side of the McDowell Road intersection to Berkeley Road. It was expected to remain in place for an extended period while the Phoenix Police Department investigated the incident.
