Container ship collides with ferry in Vietnam
This is the terrifying moment a container ship collided with a ferry in Vietnam.
The cargo ship struck the passenger vessel crossing the Vam Nao River near the Tan Trung ferry terminal in An Giang Province.
The passing watercraft, carrying passengers from Phu Tan district to Cho Moi district, was hit head-on by the fast-moving freighter.
Footage shows a rescuer throwing a lifebuoy to the travelers swimming in the water.
The captain recalled sounding multiple whistles in an attempt to alert the speeding vessel before the impact, However, the speeding bulk carrier still crashed into the boat.
The collision caused the ferry to tilt, damaging its railing and throwing three passengers and a gas truck into the river.
The loud crash was reportedly heard by nearby residents, prompting calls for help from ferries docked at the shore.
Despite the impact, the vessel, still intact, continued its route to the My Hoa hamlet wharf in My Hoi Dong commune.
On board at the time were two trucks, six motorcycles, one tricycle, and around ten passengers.
No fatalities were reported, though one truck fell into the river.
Three people, including the driver with a broken leg, were taken to the hospital, and two others sustained minor injuries.
One of the trucks had a cracked windshield, while the tricycle was severely damaged.
Local authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the incident.
