This is the moment a 62-year-old woman braved her fears and performed a backflip off a 10-metre diving board.

Karen Ali, now 64, was encouraged by her son Osama Ali, 24, an extreme sports content creator, to train for the daring dive.

Osama specialises in cliff diving and although Karen often worried about his safety, she decided to face her own fears and train alongside him.

Surprisingly, after just three training sessions, where she practiced backflips from one-metre and three-metre boards, Karen attempted and successfully completed the 10-metre dive.

A video captured by Osama shows Karen taking a deep breath before flinging herself backwards off the board.

Karen, from Trofaiach, Austria, said: "I was very scared at the top, not just because it is high up, but also because I want to make sure I don't hurt myself."

"I can remember being on top of the board so clearly and taking off was definitely the scariest part."

"I don't remember being in the air at all!"

"It's like I jumped off and then immediately landed in the water."

"It was crazy."

Osama has been diving for 15 years, inspired by older brother Sayde Ali, who is also involved in extreme sports.

When Karen went to Osama with the idea to start learning to dive, he was very surprised.

Nevertheless, Osama embraced the suggestion and the pair held three training sessions over the course of a year before she made the attempt.

Osama, a content creator from Trofaiach, Austria, said: "She had always been so worried about me and my brother that I was shocked she was interested."

"I was then taken aback when I started feeling the same way about her diving."

"As a sportsman I thought it was such a cool idea and I loved that she wanted to try, but as a son I was definitely worried."

"Especially because she'd only had three sessions, in which we practiced backflips off of one metre and three metre boards."

"However, I knew that with 10 metres, if she didn't commit to the dive, she could really hurt herself."

"But she nailed it!"

Karen has continued to be inspired by Osama's adventurous spirit and joined him on a trip to North Carolina for his own cliff diving expedition earlier this year.

She even went as far as to complete her first cliff dive while on the holiday.

Osama said: "She had become such a creature of comfort and would be nervous to travel two hours to Vienna."

"So, when I was planning a trip to the states, I invited her along and booked her a ticket."

"I was surprised she alright to go along with it but she really enjoyed herself."

"And then pushed herself to do a seven metre high cliff dive, which I was so impressed by!"

"I definitely got nervous again because being out in nature is a bit more dangerous than diving into a pool."

"But she smashed it again and I was just so proud."
