On May 13, in a supermarket in Xingtai, Hebei Province, a male cashier decided to play with a squishy stress-relief toy out of boredom during a quiet moment—only for the toy to suddenly burst, splattering white foam all over his face.

Mr. Shi, the man involved, said he was lucky to be wearing glasses at the time, which prevented the foam from getting into his eyes. However, some of it did get into his nose and had a strong, irritating smell.

The white foam found inside these squishy toys is typically made from a type of craft syrup or glue-like sticky substance. This material gives the toy its elasticity and malleability, allowing users to squeeze and stretch it to relieve stress.
