Alcalá de Guadaíra, Spain - May 15, 2025 A massive fire broke out at a chemical products warehouse in the La Red industrial estate, prompting a large-scale emergency response and forcing 80,000 residents to stay indoors. Local police and firefighters from Alcalá and Seville responded swiftly. One person was injured and hospitalized with burns. All workers were evacuated from the facility after an explosion triggered the blaze. Authorities issued an emergency alert via the Es-Alert system, urging residents to remain indoors, close windows and doors, and wear masks due to toxic smoke. The explosion occurred around 1:20 pm. The warehouse, in operation since 1985, spans 11,000 square meters and holds thousands of chemical containers. Firefighters from seven nearby towns were deployed to contain the blaze. The cloud of smoke was visible from over 80 kilometers away. The Junta de Andalucía declared a level 1 emergency. Officials are working to control the fire and assess the chemical hazards involved.
