INTERVIEW WITH ACTIVIST OTTO (English)BASEL, SWITZERLAND - MAY 15: Activists who arrived at the showground of 69th Eurovision Song Contest in the Swiss city of Basel with Palestinian flags were forced to leave the area after security forces warned them. The 2025 Eurovision Song Contest, which officially started over the last weekend, continued with the second semi-final on Thursday, May 15. Activists protesting Israel's war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza continued to demand the disqualification of Israeli contestants. Marta, one of the activists, said she does not support a genocidal state performing at the Eurovision Song Contest, and added that she does not want to see any representatives of a genocidal country in her city. Underlining that their aim is to prevent Israeli propaganda, an activist named Otto said that allowing the propaganda of a state that actively continues to commit genocide, that has killed more than 50,000 people and injured more than 100,000 people, to be broadcast on television is a terrible crime. After the police warning, the activists left the area peacefully. The Israeli army has pursued a brutal offensive on the Gaza Strip since Oct. 7, 2023, killing more than 53,000 Palestinians so far, most of them women and children. The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
