MEXICO CITY, MEXICO - MAY 15, 2025: Members of the National Coordination of Education Workers (CNTE) take part in a mass rally in Mexico City, Mexico, on Thursday, May 15. Thousands of members of the National Coordination of Education Workers (CNTE) took part in a mass rally as they called for an indefinite national strike. The CNTE set up a camp at the Zocalo main square while demanding a 100% salary increase and a better retirement system for their members. In Mexico City and other cities nationwide, teachers took to the streets calling on the government to address their concerns. “A fundamental part of this day is that by fighting we will also teach,” said Sheila Lidero Franco, a teacher participating in the protest. “We will be fighting for our rights, for a freedom of expression that is also being curtailed from us.
