In a statement shared on social media, the ministry said Rodriguez was apprehended in Colombia following extensive intelligence work and cooperation between the national police forces of Peru and Colombia, as well as Interpol. The 13 miners were previously found dead in the La Libertad region, with signs indicating they had been kidnapped and executed by an armed group linked to illegal mining activities. The victims were discovered with their hands tied and a single gunshot wound to the head.
