China: China expands robot application scenarios
Storyline China expands robot application scenarios [Voice_over] From elderly care to agriculture, the number of use cases for robots in China is increasing. In east China's Hangzhou City, robots are being used on tea plantations to do things like recognize and select tea leaves, a normally laborious task. Other robots amongst the tea fields include quadrupeds that shuttle the tea back to base. And in the elderly care sector, researchers from Hebei University of Technology have developed a robot that can stretch its arms out to securely lift someone from a bed. [Sound_bite] Liu Jixiao, associate professor, School of Mechanical Engineering, Hebei University of Technology: "For example, the two arms can carry a total load of 90 kilograms. Each joint of the robot can bend and rotate like a human being, achieving two degrees of freedom. Our next step is to better integrate touch and vision, enabling better interaction with people while ensuring safety." [Voice_over] According to a recent industry report, China's humanoid robot sector is expected to be valued at more than 1.14 billion U.S. dollars by the end of the year, accounting for half of the global market share.
