Hundreds crowd for hours as hot meals distributed in southern Gaza amid food crisis
SHOTLIST: GAZA, PALESTINE (MAY 17, 2025) (ANADOLU - ACCESS ALL) 1. VARIOUS OF PALESTINIANS WAITING AS HOT MEALS ARE BEING PREPARED 2. VARIOUS OF HOT MEAL DISTRIBUTION AMID CROWDING AND CHAOS 3. VARIOUS OF CHILDREN EATING LEFTOVER FOOD FROM BOTTOM OF POTGAZA, PALESTINE - MAY 17: Hot meals were distributed to displaced Palestinians in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, on Saturday, May 17, where hundreds of people, including women and children, waited for hours to receive food. The aid, provided through local humanitarian organizations, was delivered under difficult conditions due to the ongoing conflict and severe shortages. The heavy crowding led to moments of chaos and pushing, as desperate families struggled to secure a meal. Israel is accused of using starvation as a weapon—to break people’s will, force surrender, collectively punish, and carry out ethnic cleansing. Nearly two months after the ceasefire collapsed, Israeli forces tightened the blockade on Gaza, sealing border crossings and halting all entry of food, water, medicine, and fuel. According to the World Food Program (WFP), food stocks had already run out by April 2024, and conditions have worsened significantly since March. Even modest charity kitchens that once served over a million meals daily have now ceased operations. WFP reported that the prices of the few remaining food items have surged by over 1,400%. The Israeli army has pursued a brutal offensive against Gaza since Oct. 7, 2023, killing more than 53,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children. The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
