The casualties were transferred to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah following the attack. Witnesses reported that the strike hit Sefinet Al-Khair, a makeshift structure south of the city, killing at least nine people and wounding others in what local authorities described as a "new massacre." In a separate attack, three more Palestinians were killed when Israeli forces struck a group of civilians outside the Abu Saleem Mosque in Deir al-Balah. The latest strikes come amid an intensified Israeli military campaign in Gaza, dubbed "Gideon’s Chariots," which the army claims is aimed at securing the release of captives held in the enclave. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned days earlier that Gaza would witness unprecedented military actions in the coming phase of the war. The security cabinet unanimously approved the new operational plans, presented by the newly appointed army chief of staff, who took command two months ago. The Israeli military stated that the expanded operation includes intensified airstrikes and ground troop movements, starting in northern Gaza and pushing displaced civilians further south—first to central Gaza and eventually toward the southernmost areas. Since the start of Israel’s military offensive in October 2023, at least 53,272 Palestinians have been killed and over 120,673 injured, according to Palestinian health authorities.
