This is the skin-crawling moment croissants were spotted covered with bees at a bakery in Morocco.

Footage shows the sweet-toothed insects swarming the pastries displayed both inside and outside the glass cabinet in Casablanca.

Staff wearing bonnets and gloves, along with a customer, appeared unfazed by the bees, seemingly accustomed to their presence on May 11.

Morocco has over 36,000 beekeepers and 910,000 hives, especially in regions like Souss-Massa, where beekeeping is a valued tradition.

This likely contributes to the acceptance of bees in rural and outdoor markets, where pest control measures are often less rigorous.

Additionally, environmental conditions such as drought can push bees into urban settings, leading to more frequent encounters with food.

While the risk of contamination from bees on food is low, pollen and debris on their bodies could pose allergen risks. Rarely, bodily fluids from bees may contaminate food.

Morocco's food safety regulations, enforced by National Office for Food Safety, require food to be free from insect contamination.
