Phoenix, United States - May 18, 2025 05/18/2025 03:30 am GMT-0700 PHOENIX, Ariz. – According to preliminary details gathered at the scene, DPS troopers found a male passed out behind the wheel of a white Corvette at 83rd Avenue and I-10 shortly before 3:00 a.m. Troopers attempted to make contact with the driver, but the male gained consciousness and fled southbound on 83rd Avenue from DPS. Troopers did not pursue the driver. Troopers involved in the incident notified additional troopers via radio that the Corvette's description and license plate matched the suspect related to a shooting that occurred on I-10 last weekend, where a victim was shot in the leg. Minutes later, a DPS captain in an unmarked vehicle spotted the Corvette traveling north on 43rd Avenue from I-10. According to the Captain, troopers tracked the suspect from a distance as he drove north on 43rd Avenue and did not initiate a pursuit. The suspect was seen entering a residential neighborhood east of 43rd Avenue and Missouri Avenue a short time later. The suspect then entered a cul-de-sac near 40th Avenue and Missouri Avenue. Troopers quickly converged on the suspect and attempted to perform a traffic stop. The suspect attempted to flee but crashed into a residential front yard. At some point during the incident, DPS stated that the suspect rammed a total of three patrol vehicles, including the captain's. A high-risk traffic stop was initiated, and the suspect was taken into custody. Per the captain at the scene, details regarding the suspect's involvement in last week's shooting were unavailable at this time as they are part of an active criminal investigation.
